Ex-FPL employee alleges nuclear plant decision led to retaliation

A former operations manager at the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant is suing Florida Power & Light Co. for allegedly demoting him and treating him abusively because he made a decision to abort a plant startup in 2009.

The suit, filed Aug. 28 in St. Lucie County Circuit Court by Mark Hicks, says the decision cost the Juno Beach-based utility $6 million, but saved the plant from possible damage.
